Some say you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes. I say, you can tell a lot about a person by what’s in their fridge. There’s a lot to fridge culture. Do you still have that leftover chinese food from six months ago shoved in the back of your fridge (you know, the one with the semi-transparent lid where you can’t quite see in)? Why haven’t you tossed it? Could be you’re a supreme procrastinator or holding onto the past? Worth considering.

Yet another side to fridge culture is social etiquette. Some hosts are easily offended by a new acquaintance swinging open their fridge door. Personally, I am not offended at all if someone peaks inside and often food can be a great conversation starter. I view it as a polite gesture of comfort and an indication that my guest is looking for genuine friendship.

I would be fascinated to see Bobby Flay’s real fridge or Ricardo on a daily basis. Cribs perfected the fridge tour the best, but I prefer to see everyday people. A bottle of Cristal is simply an ornament and while it does tell a lot about a person, it simply is not interesting anymore.

Take a look inside my Amana fridge and you may discover something you didn’t already know.
